Project Overview

Migrating our Trade-In program from a standalone WornWear.com experience to the main Patagonia.com shopping ecosystem was part of the second phase of Patagonia's circularity initiative.

Our goal was to make trade-in easier, more visible, and more integrated, giving customers the ability to:

  • Get an estimate before mailing or bringing gear to a store

  • Trade in directly from past purchases in their account history

  • Track trade-in orders within their account

The Challenge

The Challenge

The Challenge

Patagonia’s trade-in program previously lived on WornWear.com, creating a fragmented experience that separated it from the main Patagonia.com ecosystem. This separation limited awareness, caused drop-off between discovery and completion, and made it harder for customers to see trade-in as a natural part of their shopping journey.

The goal was to integrate trade-in into Patagonia.com so customers could easily:

  • Discover the program while shopping

  • Check if their gear was eligible via a guided quiz

  • Complete a trade-in without friction

  • Track their progress in the same account where they shop new and used gear

The challenge was designing an experience that felt seamless, intuitive, and on-brand, while balancing operational constraints, complex backend integrations with Worn Wear, and education around Patagonia’s circular commerce programs.
